The memtable-to-SSTable flow is cleary explained but what people often miss is that compaction overhead becomes the hidden bottleneck in write-heavy workloads. I've seen systems where the background compaction couldnt keep up with incoming writes dunno if tuning compaction strategy helps but that read amplification cost is real.
